The initial goal of my Imagine IT was to design professional development that helped increase teaching for conceptual understanding. The implementation of my Imagine IT in Fall 2016 had varied success. Many teachers started using understanding by design and began shifting some of their ideas about teaching for surface level knowledge versus conceptual understanding, but many struggled to design innovative, inquiry-based learning experiences as they regularly lacked the time to research new pedagogical approaches or technological tools. Working in small groups and individually with teachers helped me address some of their needs, but still did not make integrating TPACK into their regular planning routine accessible when they did not have the time or the tools to make sorting through the myriad options realistic. I began to think that the creation of a tool that streamlines accessing TPACK resources will help minimize the impact the hurdles “lack of time” and/or knowledge have on creating innovative learning experiences.
